SIZING:
All of our pet products are sized in inches. There is no sizing standard throughout the pet industry, all manufacturers vary in their sizing. It is imperative that you measure your pet carefully & order accordingly for each product. We are unable to guess your pet's size based on breed/weight. If you need guidance or have questions as to how to properly measure your pet, feel free to contact us prior to ordering.
We do not recommend that you use your pet's current collar as a way to measure his/her neck size. This method may give you an estimate on size, but if your pet falls in between two sizes this could lead you to choose the wrong size when ordering. The most reliable way to measure your pet's neck is to use a flexible measuring tape. Wrap the tape measure completely around your pet's neck and take note of the measurement. If you do not have a measuring tape, try a piece of string and a ruler. While measuring, you may allow enough room for approximately 2-3 fingers to slide underneath the tape measure/string, but do not add extra room (inches) to your measurement. All of our collars are adjustable and you'll want to have an accurate representation to use when shopping.
WIDTH: The width of a pet collar is equally as important as the length. Our collars are made in a variety of widths based on the size of the webbing core of the collar. Here is a brief description of each width we offer along with it's most common use:
3/8" width: Standard for all cat, kitten & toy dog Collars (smaller puppies, too)
1/2" width: Not as popular as 3/8", but also used for small dog collars or puppies.
3/4" width: Commonly use for Small & Medium dog collars
1" width: Commonly used on Medium, Large & Extra Large dog collars. To accomodate customers of various sizes, weights & breeds, we offer 1" wide collars ranging in size from: Small-Extra Large.
If you order a small 1" collar please be sure that your dog has a build/stature that is comfortable in this width.
1 1/2" width: Not as popular as the 1" width collars, but this width is used for Large/Extra Large collars or martingale style dog collars. Martingale collars are commonly used for sighthounds (or dogs that have a head smaller than the base of their neck and tend to back out of their collars).
COLLAR BUCKLES: (important to read if you are considering upgrading to a metal buckle)
All of our collars come standard with nylon quick release buckles (black plastic buckles) designed specifially for use on pet collars. Cat collars come with safety break-away buckles that are designed to break open under pressure, therefore they should never be used with a leash or tie out, as they will break open.
**Optional hardware upgrades** We offer the option to upgrade to a sturdy metal buckle on any 3/4" or 1" dog collar. Metal buckles offer extra style and strength and the ability to personalize your collar. Please keep in mind metal buckles weigh approximately 2 ounces and may be too heavy for very small dogs or toy/mini breeds. If you choose to have your dog's collar personalized by adding a metal buckle with engraving, the product will not be eligible for return.
CRAFTSMANSHIP, COLLAR WEBBING & HARDWARE:
We love our pets more than anything in this world and would not offer products we didn't feel are of the highest quality. To be sure of this we craft all of our collars, leads and harnesses using commercial grade nylon webbing (stronger than polypro or cotton webbing; which unravels too easily and we will not risk using), steel welded d-rings, cast metal slides, nickel plated snaphooks, nylon side release buckles designed specifically for dog collars and the option to upgrade to a metal side release buckles on all medium & large dog collars. We craft our products using commercial and/or industrial sewing machines with strong bonded threads.
We are currently investigating eco-friendly options for our customers. If you have a special request, please let us know and we will do our best to consider them all. While we would LOVE to offer more environmentally friendly collar options, your pet's safety is first and foremost and we will not use any products that we fear will not provide comparable strength and durability.
PET SAFETY:
Pet safety is always on our mind. All pet products will wear with use and must be checked frequently for signs of wear. Please be responsible and inspect your pet's collar, harness and leash regularly. Adjust collars to fit properly and safely for your pet. Be sure to take great care to note if seams, stitching or hardware are showing any signs of wear; use of such items should be immediately discontinued.
We take great care to make the best products possible. However, it is the consumers responsibility to determine if a Feline Fido product is suitable for their individual pet. We do not ever recommend our products be used with a "tie out", nor do we recommend that any pet be left outside on a tie-out or leash of any kind, without supervision.
DISCLAIMER: It is the consumers responsibility to ensure that any Feline Fido item is suitable for their individual pet/situation and assumes all responsibility and liability by purchasing these products.. Pet items will wear differently for each individual animal. Inspect collars and other items regularly to ensure seams are stitched tightly and buckles, webbing, etc. are suitable for continued use.
Never leave a collar on any crated or caged animal. Our cat collars are crafted with safety break-away buckles, which means that the manufacturer designs the buckles to pull apart under pressure; therefore they are not to be used with a leash.
